The topic has been going for ages. I remember years ago when there was a huge fuss about porting Tokimeki Memorial to English but it never came through, despite the huge petitions for it
I wonder why game developer never tried to port one of these good games into English & see how the sales go. I'm not in the game industry but I assume it is not that expensive to port a game from Japanese to English (assuming you use the original Japanese voice)
There are also 'radicals' telling the fan of these game to get a life of sort but like any game the purpose is to have fun. I for one would like to see one game ported into English. Or perhaps I've missed something & there's already one available. The only game I can remember that came close to this was Thousand Arms, where you sort of can 'date' the girls & given options to answer their questions

I think the reason why a game like Love Plus wouldnt be ported here is because of the cultural difference between America and Japan, i mentioned in another post, I think, but basiclly alot of the gaame deals with japanese culture, and the average american would understand them, like white day or golden week.

Well, that and the fact that most visual novels are somewhat in the ecchi factor if not hentai. even if you take the hentai out, there is still the matter of culture like John said. After all, who wold want to teach someone else's culture when they don't even know their own that much? Also don't forget the age thing....that's yet another reason, by foreign standards they aren't legal yet, and some don't even look the age, I can see a certain group going apes if they are released

if I'm not mistaken, long time ago Princess Maker made it into English no?
but right now the closest to a dating simulation in english that we have is either Sakura Wars 5 or Persona series (can't remember which number) and of course thousand arms!

I believe it was being translated but never saw the light of day... -according to wiki: an English-language beta version exists, but was never formally released- Also there are a good amount of games that have either been fan translated or officially english translated, they just aren't the sweet love kind of thing, they are the H ones... Although clannad doesn't seem to be H, but I think it was fan translated, and it seemed good.

yeah true, its always the H one that gets the quick translation while the normal dating sims just get ignored.

oh my god, princess maker! I played PM2 in english when I was kid, on DOS! It was a game for girls, but wth, I enjoyed it terribly. I made her a hero, a blacksmith, a whore, but never got to "princess". I even made her marry the buttler xD. I always thought that was a fan translation, not an official one :S. That version had files missing and no music.
Later I played PM1 and PM2 on PC98 emulator, in japanese. And have PM4 on my DS ^^
Yeah, like all, we all want this games to be translated to our languages, but this genre simply don't exist in the west, and what's worst, it's too much WEIRD for western cultures (you can be called weird, sick, psycopath, pedophile, pervert, or wacky if you play these, my father says that to me -_-), thus no market, no possibilities of releases at least in USA/Europe market.

First PM game for me was either PM2 or 3, can't remember much, but I do remember it was at my cousin's, she had the game and it got me interested. After that it was 10 years before I went to search for it again, but it was fun XD. Especially since those games were translated into Korean...

I was not aware of a PM for the DS! thank you very much! Never played the game but its kind of famous and being such an old series it does intrigue me to try it.
