I ran into this video somehow, which kind of blames otaku for the fall of Japanese culture. The Love Plus part is at 14:45 I want to rant, but I can't think of anything intelligent to say It's like they think I'm subhuman because I'm playing a dating sim

I watched this documentary earlier this month cause initially i found the title very offensive, all i can say is that each person's reality is different than the next, just as i might not understand all type of people i don't expect all people to understand me. The reporter is clearly in a different time and space than the guys, was it intelligent of her to make fun of them that lightly just because she couldn't grasp the idea of their lifestyle? I don't think so but then again all type of fandoms receive a harsh ignorant backlash from the more common folks so it's within reason of what to be expected i guess.

I appreciate your level-headedness I agree with you, as we have no idea what kind of lives they have had. A completely different reality than the reporter. I don't think it's good one of the LP guys felt the need to hide his hobby from his wife, though. ....and then she segues into her idea of what successful Japanese women are (like herself, obviously)...it was a bit unfair. I guess what irked me was the reporter's two-faced judgmentalism...how nice she acts when she interviews them, then proceeds to slam them behind their back. Anyway, the mention of LP in the video caught me off-guard, I wasn't really expecting it, and felt the need to vent

Yeah, It's sad but usually when LP is mentioned by the "foreign" press it's usually under a negative light. i guess one of the reasons it never did nor probably ever will become localized. There's also another recent documentary by 'vice' that has a tiny glimpse of the game.

It's really too bad LP taken on its own, is very innocent. It's heartbreaking to see it smeared by western presses.

If they put up a dating sim which had a heavy sex component it could be written off as "normal", I mean they wouldn't feature porn as a problem as it is so widely used in society. Yet, find a dating sim which satisfies one psychologically and emotionally, suddenly there is a "problem". The reporters tone and body language was absolutely disgusting, she couldn't have been more mocking. They picked up on it, you see them respond by leaning back a little, placing their hand in front of their face and acting a little defensively. That reporter was obviously biased. I would like to see the interview before editing. I found the worst bit was when she stated that we can't just "live and let live" because the otaku culture is such a "problem". I guess her idea of an alternative would be breeding farms and prosecute anyone not wanting to breed. The world is sooo underpopulated afterall /sarcasm.Personally, I think she took offense to it. In the eyes of those men, the reporter had been replaced. If anything, those men were more mature, not "refusing to grow up" or anything. They identified a careless period of love and happiness and live it in their spare time via a game, at all other times maintaining a normal life. That sounds pretty normal to me. Do whatever makes you happy.

It's a strange contradiction, isn't it? Video game news media outlets pigeon-hole LP as the creepy weirdo game, but they keep shoving GTAV or Lara Croft and all that other risque sex/violence-porn stuff in my face. Heck, even bookstores like Barnes & Noble sell adult magazines that like Playboy or whatever. And WE'RE the weirdos? Something really is upside-down with the world.

www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/21/loveplus-video-game_n_4588612.html?utm_hp_ref=worldI think this is relevant. Recently written too... Disclaimer: No, I don't go actively looking for these articles, they just pop up... It's not an issue with this article in particular, but whenever I read the about the Western press on niche games, it just goes to show me their lack of understanding of what they're covering at times. Yes, they haven't played it, I understand that point. But it seems like they go out of their way to sound like idiots.

That's interesting... and unexpected. Who runs the Facebook page, by the way? I'm assuming every staff member here? Both you and Chrnos?

I'm the admin to the 'NEW' facebook page not the 'Love Plus' one being interviewed in the article, i was also contacted by a (different?) Journalist but she thought i was the official staff of Konami so i instead pointed her towards information to contact them instead..
to me the game is just a happy and positive non-violent game that i enjoy very much, if someone sees this as something more i don't see any harm to that especially since it appears to have helped people cope with personal things, the article itself is written in a good-spirited mood but man, again those user comment on the article are pretty harsh..I guess you can never win with this genre.
