I know some of you guys use flashcarts, but I never thought the board would support piracy as an open topic...
Anyway, as far as I can tell, I don't think they have much of a chance. Considering Nintendo doesn't need to know "how" to block to actually do it. I'm honestly not sure why people want to pirate 3DS games, given the region restrictions for one, and two, they don't exactly lock down their system like others do, so digital rights management is quite light on their machine.
Given the great JP only releases, I just don't see it. You're paying $80 US for the cart itself, plus the extra cost of the SD cards, don't you think it's more reasonable just to buy the game from your respective retailer or import? (BOTH are cheaper in this case, surprisingly enough).

80$ for the card, then hundreds more to order a foreign 3ds because Nintendo decided to put in regional encoding. MANY people use portable consoles on long haul flights, Nintendo knows this. What they did with regional encoding was pure greed.
A flash card utilising the full capability of the 3ds will be awesome for homebrew. More CPU power means more cycles to spend on rendering, maybe even flash games can be brought across. It is good hardware with a lot of potential. Webserver anyone?
Maybe someone can fix the buggy-as-hell NLP.
Flash cards are not only used for piracy.

to be honest it wasn't convenient to buy a Japanese 3DS cause there are so many other 3DS games I'd like to play(Professor Layton etc) but i have the machine but can't play the (ENG) games! I can see a future for 3DS flash cards but we're not there yet..maybe once nintendo updates to a different console system and they leave the 3DS behind..

I honestly hope that Nintendo offers the encryption keys or offers a downloadable unlock when the unit falls our of favor, perhaps selling the developer units to the public. I can't see it happening, but it would be nice. It would make it a competitor in a different market. They could have really utilised the 3DS more.. such as using it for a Wii U controller. Massive oversight there. Edit: LovePlus is the only reason I would buy a JP 3DS, I am waiting to see if a new collectors edition is released with the new game before I decide. Makes it a very expensive game to play if I have to buy a 3DS. Bad Nintendo bad!

Ami, this flashcart (Gateway to piracy? heh) can ONLY be used for piracy in this case. The developers said it themselves. This isn't one of those that can also enable homebrew, so what you would be supporting is full on piracy.
For me there are no real benefits to it. For the cost, yes, I'd rather just pick up a NLP 3DS for the price, myself.

The board DOESN'T support piracy. But I'm not going to forbid people to talk about the use of flashcards. I mean, most of our community uses them. (Even I did at some point).
The only forbidden thing is to post links to ROMS or any kind of illegal downloads, please keep that in mind.

If it was piracy I was against, I'd probably say it outright... It's the reasons that I find interesting more than anything else. There are two paths one can take, homebrew or piracy.
The latter would be the easy way out. Pirates do it because it's right in front of them. But why do they do it honestly? Region lock and price aren't valid reasons because they don't (really) prevent you from playing the games otherwise. Moral choice? If I asked their reasons, they'd give the above. Doesn't it seem a bit harder now to justify it?
This isn't meant to be a debate, I'd just like to hear some thoughts on the matter, because if those issues are taken out of the picture, then what does it have going for it? (I understand not everyone does it, but for those who do, why?)

During the eight months I had my flashcard, the only other use I gave it was to playtest games to see if I like them enough to buy them. The 3DS now have downloadable demos, but NDS never did. I downloaded the ROMS, played the games during a day and deleted them the next day.
I bought very good games thanks to that, games like Dementium, 999 and Okami-den. I would never bought them if I hadn't played them first.

I've bought both LP/LP+ games but i play them from my flash card cause i can have all 3 versions(LP,LP ENG PATCH,LP+) conveniently in one card that i carry with me everywhere and not have to worry of misplacing a card, loosing it or damaging the card receiver of my DS by inserting/removing to many cards..i then frequently update my game saves by using DS and 3DS together to transfer them (from flash card game in DS to original game card in 3DS)

It might state it is only used for piracy, but there is a lot of software written that will run on it.
Moonshell, the media center is quite popular on the 3ds. It would be nice to see it with more features.
It is also progress.. a lot of people have been working a long time on this and little to no progress is made.
I have a flash cart because I am learning Japanese, LP helps a lot and I wanted it patched. Not that I feel I need to justify my actions to anyone. My self awarded "reward" for becoming semi fluent in Japanese will be the new game, when released. I would have NLP, but as we all know it is buggy as all hell. Hopefully the new one is written better.
I also want the Rinko Limited edition 3ds, irrespective of whether I have a flash card or not. I'll be ordering that from konamistyle via escrow.

Whichever current firmware you're on, Gateway won't support past 4.5.X-XX, so I can't see much use out of it for newer games. And with the firmware being non-downgradeable, you're essentially SOL for games that aren't in production yet (With these exploits, Nintendo doesn't sit around).
And yes, that means NLP+ as well (not that I'm saying you would).

It's a start.. first made in years.
I am buying NLP+ and a JP 3DS.. when released. I still wouldn't mind unlocking the power of the console for homebrew.
